No matter where you live in the world if you have spent any time driving on the roads there, you’ll notice driver who consistently break rules of the road. It is inevitable, perhaps they simply don’t know the rules or maybe they are just to tired to give a damn as they are trying to get home. But here are some of our favorites, that are rules of the road pretty much everywhere.
Rolling stops
Possibly my biggest pet peeve, the rolling stop. This is where someone is approaching a stop sign, and while they slow down to an ALMOST stop, they just roll through it. The problem with just “slowing down” or crawling through is that you are at a STOP sign, which means you have to come to a complete stop.
Texting
Easily the largest factor of car accidents on our roads in the last 5 years, using a cellphone to text is illegal. It also unbelievably dangerous as you are turning your entire attention and at the very least one hand, onto a phone while operating a heavy steel object at speed. That text can wait, don’t do it!
Turning into the wrong lane
This one is surely one of the biggest causes of vehicle accidents. Turning into the wrong lane is where you are required to stay in the same lane you were in when you started the turn. For example, if you are turning left at an intersection, you are to continue into the lane just right of the centre line. That’s right, you do not just cruise through to the lane closest to the curb!
So next time you are on the road, think about these 3 rules and try to stick to them. It’s everyone’s duty to be a safe driver.
