The Ferrari F40 is a vehicle that you probably have seen on a poster or two, and it’s definitely been feature on the bedroom walls of many teenagers. It is a vehicle that was designed by Nicola Materazzi in 1987 and is a true mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car. The name, F40, comes from the fact that the vehicle was launched on Ferrari’s 40th birthday and it was the pinnacle of what Ferrari could make.

The F40 was the fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car for Ferrari at the time. They had a planned production total of 400 units but it rose to 1315 units. The factory suggest retail prices was $400,000.

There was one engine produced fore the vehicle, a twin turbocharged Tipo F120A/F V8 that produced 471 horsepower and it of course came equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission. 0-100km/h was achieved in 4.7 seconds and the top speed was 321km/h or 199mph. At the time of the release, it was met with mixed emotions. Some accused Ferrari of trying to cash in on speculators money after seeing used Ferraris skyrocket in value while others were not happy with the handling and performance. However, the F40 has since grown to legendary status and is easily one of the greatest Ferraris ever made.
