Technology has advanced the automobile to some unprecedent times with better features and safety technology that greatly protects us. But there is one thing that is somewhat overlooked, cars today are a lot more powerful. Even with all the increasing emission and fuel economy requirements, there has never been a better time for horsepower and performance.
Even 10 years ago if I asked you to name a couple cars you can buy brand new with 700 horsepower you’d probably struggle to come up with a list. But today, that’s very doable and I’m going to tell you about the top 7 700 horsepower cars you can actually buy.
Dodge Challenger Hellcat
The two Dodge vehicles on the list will be the most affordable, although there is still a significant price tag attached to them. But with that said, they are fun. First is the Dodge Challenger Hellcat, a 2 door coupe packing the 6.2L supercharged v8 engine putting out 707 horsepower and 650lb feet of torque. You can even add the Demon model trim which gets you the widebody styling and bumps the horsepower up to 840 and 770lb feet of torque.
Dodge Charger Hellcat
Like the Challenger the Charger packs the same 6.2L supercharged putting out 707 horsepower and 650lb feet of torque. The difference is of course that you are getting a 4 door sedan over the coupe. Price point is almost the same for both of them so it really comes down to whether you need to the rear seats.
Ferrari 812 Superfast
If you wanted something a little more elegant, then the Ferrari 812 Superfast is for you. It features a 6.5L V12 engine that puts out 789 horsepower and 530lb feet of torque. It features only an automatic transmission that is seven-speed dual clutch auto. Of course it features all the fit and finish you would expect from Ferrari.
Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 made a return for 2020 after a six year hiatus. They now feature a supercharged motor based on the GT350’s 5.2L V8 engine but with cross-plane crankshaft as opposed to the flat-plane crankshaft, generating 760 horsepower. The fit and finish is excellent, and features a comfortable ride with tons of power to make the rubber burn.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk
If you were looking for something with more space but that it still packs power, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is for you. It features the same 707 horsepower engine that the Charger and Challenger Hellcats feature but adds all-wheel drive. The 6.2L supercharged v8 engine puts out 707 horsepower and 650lb feet of torque.
Porsche 911 GT2 RS
The Porsche 911 GT2 RS uses a 3.8L flat-six engine with turbos to max out the power. In the end you get 700 horsepower and 550lb feet of torque. This Porsche is automatica only and features a 7 speed PDK gearbox to handle all the power.
Lamborghini Aventador
The Lamborghini Aventador pushes you over the 700 horsepower and into the 740 horsepower territory. Obviously with Lamborghini you are going to get a lot more exotic features, starting with the engine which is a 6.5L V12. The rest of the vehicle is filled with carbon bodywork to enhance performance and maximize weight.
